A Family Affair at Oriental Palace, Tomas Morato

Eating out is a big part of our culture and we usually come in big groups. Whether we're celebrating the smallest victories or just catching up, regular communal meals cultivate relationships and makes people happier.

Oriental Palace, the newest family Chinese restaurant in Tomas Morato, started its operations last November 8, 2014. It traces its roots to Wah Yuen, a famous noodle and dimsum restaurant in Escolta, established by the Chua family's patriarch in 1978.

Mr. Henry Chua is very hands on. He goes to the market himself everyday, makes sure the food is prepared with perfection and goes around tables to talk to customers. He is from Hong Kong who specializes in Cantonese fine dining as well as their two imported chefs who takes care of roasting and dim sum.

When asked about what makes Oriental Palace unique, you're in for a treat. His son, Sir Chris shared "yung sa food, kasi ngayon may mahilig na Chinese na 'Oy, bigyan mo naman ako ng something different, na ibang klaseng luto" and the father would cook a special dish for them. Their Marketing Manager Sir Joey mentioned: "Pwede mo sabihin kasi Chinese is pare-pareho lang, pero sa kanila it's the personal touch na binibigay ng father."

This massive restaurant has a main dining hall, shabu-shabu area (soon to open 24/7), function areas and private rooms that can accommodate up to 800 diners. It is adorned with beautiful chandeliers with mostly red walls and gold accents. There's an entrance and parking space (with an additional open parking lot) on all three sides but the main door is located along Scout Gandia St.

Different kinds of seafood, including exotic ones, are available in the restaurant. Choose from different kinds of fishes such as Lapu Lapu, eels, lobsters, shrimp, elephant shells, etc. with guaranteed freshness.

Despite the posh-looking environment, Oriental Palace is easy on the pocket and gives you more than what you pay for. Each dish tasted simple in a good way (no umay feeling) and fresh. We kept coming back for more of the main dishes despite how full we were with the dimsum, appetizers, Jasmine tea and shakes. I wasn't used to eating dimsum without toyomansi but I got appreciate it more. I love that my Japanese food favorites are also available in their menu.

My personal favorites were Xiao Long Bao, Hakaw, Tempura, Suahe rice, Oyster XO, and coffee jelly. I would love to try their lobster and crabs next time :)

If you're looking for delicious and authentic Chinese food for private meetings, press events, weddings, debuts or other occasions, Oriental Palace is the place to go.

  1. Missed this one. Grabe literally drooling with the food selection. I wonder how much yung price range ng mga food choices nila.

  2. Most of their a la cart items are between P60 - P300. Seafood is charged by kilo :)

  3. I've never tried eating at any Chinese restaurant in that area since we have enough Chinese restaurants in Binondo, my home. Oriental Place looks like a huge space serving exquisite food.
