TIMPLADO strengthens food safety implementation in prep for additional markets’ opening
LIPA CITY -- TIMPLADO, an offshoot company of Circa 1740, strengthens food safety implementation through the conduct of a two-day training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in preparation for the opening of its additional markets this year.
Thirteen employees, mostly newly hired, partook the training conducted on January 25-26 at TIMPLADO Coffee Shop at Brgy. Mataas na Lupa. The training helped capacitate production workers about the food safety standards in different production processes and in the processing facility. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Unified Food Safety Training Modules for MSMEs were the learning materials used during the training facilitated by DOST CALABARZON Food Safety Team members, Mr. Mhark Ellgine Libao, Mr. John Michael Florendo, and Mr. John Maico Hernandez, from Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Batangas.
The training covered topics on basic food hygiene, food hazards (i.e., biological, chemical, physical and allergens), cross-contamination, personnel hygiene, food contact surfaces, pest control, cleaning and sanitation, and documentation. Activities on hand washing, food hazards, and cross-contamination were also conducted to simulate situations during food preparation that affect food safety.
Although food safety practices are in place, TIMPLADO’s Chief Executive Officer, Miss Kathleen Manto recognized the impact that the training has provided in improving the knowledge and practices of their employees. To her, the training was a boost to the standard procedures they observe to upkeep the quality of their products and ensure their customers’ safety most importantly now that their additional markets will open. Mr. Ariestelo Asilo, TIMPLADO’s Chief Operating Officer, likewise shared how this training served as a springboard in their application for License to Operate at the FDA. He also mentioned his hope for the approval of their DOST SETUP project proposal which can further support their GMP implementation aside from upgrading their processes.
TIMPLADO is a food and beverage company focused on creating rich, full-bodied coffee blends named after Batanguena and Filipina known heroes namely, Marcela, Gabriela, Teresa, Josefa, Melchora and Gliceria. These names complement with the unique flavors of strong barako blends, barako blend with white chocolate and milk, barako blend with coco sugar, barako blend with chili powder and coco sugar. The branding structure also mirrors how the company empowers and provides livelihood to at-home moms through packaging of products. Yet aside from this iconic characterization of their coffee blends, TIMPLADO functions to promote inclusivity by partnering with coffee farmers, communities, and markets and works for its shared commitment in revitalizing the Batangas barako coffee. Native Filipino delicacies are also served in their shop as partners of their coffee blends.
