Winter Garden Desserts, Katipunan
In a tropical country like ours, to experience 'winter' is to stay in Baguio during December to January. I would wake up early and talk a lot because smoke comes out of my mouth! Good times eh?
I think it's the very thing that makes liquid nitrogen ice cream the latest craze in Manila.
Hidden in plain sight is the newest hang out place in Katips - Winter Garden Desserts! The name was inspired by a phenomenon called kazahana, which is described as "a light snow flurry from a cloudless sky". This 40-seater establishment is the first liquid nitrogen ice cream shop in the area.
Menu
Winter Garden Desserts offer four Winter's Breath.

During the bloggers' event, I ordered Morning Campfire and Rockin' Rocky Road, Ate Vance ordered Movie Critters and St. Nick's Favorite, and Erica ordered Buttermilk Sky which we all shared.
Last Friday I went back with my high school best friend after our quick food trip at Maginhawa. We ordered Garden Party and Sunrise Surprise.
Quick facts about liquid nitrogen
Liquid nitrogen instantly freezes the ice cream mixture, technically by boiling, That white puff of cold vapor is actually steam. This makes the ice cream smoother.
[caption id="attachment_4071" align="aligncenter" width="499"] Liquid nitrogen is poured over the dessert. Wait for at least 8 seconds before consuming :)[/caption]
Do note that liquid nitrogen should be handled with care. Follow the instructions given by the staff. Do not ingest or touch it, you might get frostbite or burns.
By the way in case you ran out of liquid nitrogen, refill costs P20.
I must have stepped into ice cream wonderland without knowing! Haha! The whole place and their desserts are all Instagram-friendly. I love the added flavor and texture of the cornflakes in the Morning Campfire and cookies in the Rockin' Rocky Road. Sweetness level and serving size was just about right. It was my first time to try liquid nitrogen desserts during the bloggers event and I appreciate the reminders of the staff even on my second trip.
Kids and kids at heart will enjoy the Winter Garden Desserts experience!
Thank you owners Ms. Cecile and Sir Danny for accommodating us! Thank you Rodel Flordeliz for the invite! Thanks to my best friend, a chemist, for enlightening me. :)
