Chinese New Year at Crystal Jade Dining In!
Crystal Jade hosted a thanksgiving lunch at Crystal Jade Dining IN, Bonifacio High Street, featuring its newest menu items that will surely delight everyone!
This was my first time to dine at Crystal Jade, an international franchise well-known for serving authentic Chinese dishes. The Greenhills branch (Shanghai Delights) specializes in Shanghai cuisine while the BGC branch (Dining IN) is more into Cantonese cuisine. Dining IN has a fine dining set-up and has function rooms for parties / meetings.

Our meal began with good news: Xiao Long Bao, the bestseller in Shanghai Delights, is also served in Dining IN! I'm happy the head office listened to the clamor of the diners.
To welcome the coming year of the ram, Crystal Jade will serve yúshēng 鱼生 or Prosperity Toss Salad - a staple among Chinese communities in Singapore and Malaysia every Chinese New Year.

Arranged on a large serving plate, the colorful array of ingredients include raw fish, shredded green and white radish drained of liquid, shredded carrots, pickled ginger, crushed nuts and pomelo. It is topped with various condiments including deep-fried flour crisps, crushed peanuts, sesame seeds, cinnamon, pepper and other spices and poured with plum sauce and cooking oil to add sweetness and taste.
Everyone at the table jointly toss the salad high and mixed pushing towards the center while saying "lo hei" seven (7) times, This tradition is said to bring prosperity and wealth.

Crystal Jade is also famous for its Peking Duck. We were told it was to be served in two ways. The skin was carved out and wrapped in pita bread with cucumber, spring onion and Hoisin sauce. Simple but so yummy!

Next we had a savory soup called Double-boiled Fish with White Fungus and Papaya. The white fungus, which I believe is a kind of mushroom, was gelatinous.
It might look like buchi but one bite of the Golden Sesame Balls Stuffed with Fresh Mushroom turned into two and before I knew it, I was getting another one. Haha! There's salted egg mixed in that gave it an addictive taste.
The first thing I've noticed about our next dish, Crispy Prawn with Sliced Apple and Sweet and Sour Sauce, was that it smelled like melted chocolate. Nothing indicating the presence of our beloved sweet, I deduced that the sauce coupled with apples enhanced the natural smell of the fresh, huge prawns.
While I am not familiar with the fish used in Steamed Live Garoupa with Black Olives, I can say it was fresh and soft. The sauce was light but black olives might throw you off a bit, especially if you're more of a green olives person like me.
I try to eat a balance meal so I'm glad they served us another savory dish, the Sauteed Assorted Vegetable with Preserved Vegetable.
The duck meat went to our final dish, Braised Noodles with Shredded Duck Meat & Mushroom. Honestly, it didn't look appetizing presentation-wise. I was urged to try it and boy was I mistaken. If I wasn't full I'd definitely ask for a second serving. I forgot to ask if they make the noodles themselves.. :3
Are you DINING IN soon? These dishes are part of the Chef's Recommendations menu, with more than twenty expert creations that you must simply try!
For drinks, Jam ordered Mixed Fruit Juice while I settled for hot Honey Lemon Drink. We capped off our meal with a taste of the Chilled Coffee Jelly and Taro Balls.

I got the invitation through Ms. Kathy Kenny of lifeiskulayful.com and we shared a table with Ms. Joy of gastronomybyjoy.com and Ate Edel of thekitchengoddess.blogspot.com.
On the way to the restaurant, I was chatting with Jam of haveatyou.com, who I have last seen in our desserts cafe review last year, and coincidentally we're going to the same event. She became my guide for the day hehe. Thank you for answering my makulit questions :*
So happy to see you @jua_moxy! Bonding again soon <3 #tiistaba #foodies #friends #foodbloggers A photo posted by Dems (@dangmusings) on
